UISP - Add Devices to UISP Application
Overview
This article provides info to assist with adding new devices to your UISP Application for remote management, as well as troubleshooting steps whenever device discovery or adoption fails.
- The following methods assume that you already have the UISP Application online/active, to which your device will adopt in order to become centrally-managed. To quickly set up the UISP Application using Ubiquiti's free cloud-hosted platform, please visit this link here. Once your UISP server is online/running, you may proceed with the methods in this article — Ubiquiti recommends using the UISP Mobile App for simplicity.
- All adoption methods described in this article assume that your device is running in its factory default state. For compatibility reasons, please ensure that the device is running the latest available firmware version. Your device firmware may also be upgraded during the adoption process.
- The UISP Mobile App is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
- UniFi devices are not managed by the UISP Mobile app. Use the UniFi Network app instead, available in the Apple App Store, and on Google Play.
- The WiFiman Mobile App can also be used to discover Ubiquiti devices and their IP addresses.
- Although not required, it's generally recommended that the first device you add your primary UISP Gateway device first to the UISP Application for best experience, as well as to take advantage of all features (ex. Topology, Traffic Controls). Ubiquiti recommends the UISP-branded gateway devices (ex. UISP Console, UISP Router) or EdgeRouter devices running the latest available firmware.
Steps: Add via Mobile App
Due to ease & simplicity, adding devices using the UISP Mobile App is Ubiquiti's recommended method. The UISP Mobile App is freely available on the Apple App Store & Google Play Store.
- Connect power to your device.
- For ISP wireless devices, this means connect Ethernet cables to the respective POE port of your ISP wireless device for power. After ~60 seconds, your ISP wireless device will begin broadcasting a local network, to which you'll connect using the UISP Mobile App.
- For UISP Routing/Switching devices (ex. UISP Console, UISP Router), this means connecting the included power supply. After ~60 seconds, your UISP device will begin broadcasting a bluetooth network, to which you'll connect using the UISP Mobile App.
NOTE: Other wired devices (ex. EdgeMAX, UFiber, SolarPoint) may not feature a bluetooth radio, but you can still set up using other methods mentioned in this article, including via Device Web UI or via UISP Application.
- Download the UISP Mobile App to your mobile device. UISP Mobile app is available for both Android (Google Play) & iOS (App Store) devices.
- Enable the Bluetooth radio for your mobile device.
- Open the UISP Mobile App, and proceed with the steps in the UISP Mobile App.

Steps: Add via Device Web UI (Connect to Device Directly via LAN)
This method requires connecting your device to your local network — if the UISP Application is running on a remote network (ex. Ubiquiti's Cloud platform), then Internet access is essential for device adoption.
- Connect power to your device.
- For ISP wireless devices (ex. airMAX, Wave, airFiber), this means connecting your radio to the port labelled PoE on the power injector. The Ethernet port is auto-sensing. You are not required to use a crossover cable.
- For routing/switching devices (ex. EdgeMAX, UFiber), use the included power supply to provide power to your device.
- Connect your device to your Internet-connected network to allow for discovery & adoption to your UISP Application.
- Install WiFiman or check your DHCP servers lease table to find the device MAC address and IP address assigned.
Note: As of airOS M v6.3.2, airMAX M radios when reset to factory default will first try to obtain an IP address via DHCP. If an IP address isn't obtained via DHCP, the radio will fallback to 192.168.1.20 - Launch your web browser and enter IP address obtained from Step#3 as URL to gain access to the device's management console.
- Enter ubnt / ubnt for the default username / password.
- Ensure that your device is updated to the latest firmware version.
- From within the device's web UI, click on the UISP button to connect your device to the UISP Application via the device's web UI.
NOTE: The unique UISP Key is required in order to adopt your device to your UISP Application. This key can be viewed/copied directly from the Settings >> Devices section of your UISP Application.
Steps: Add via UISP Application Web UI (Discovery via Web Browser)
The UISP Discovery feature is a system designed to find devices in your network and easily adapt them to the UISP application. There are two methods used to discover devices:

Scan from the UISP
Search for devices in the network(s) connected to the UISP console. -
Scan from Devices
Search for devices from other currently connected/adopted devices.
The second option allows UISP to discover devices inside private network ranges or behind NAT. It is even possible to automatically upgrade the firmware of a device if it does not meet the minimum requirements. The Scan from Devices option is especially useful for UISP Cloud users as it allows you to automatically discover and connect to local LAN devices from the Cloud.
Listed below are steps to discover/adopt your device via the UISP Application web UI:
- While in its factory-default state, connect power to your device.
- For ISP wireless devices (ex. airMAX, Wave, airFiber), this means connecting your radio to the port labelled PoE on the power injector. The Ethernet port is auto-sensing. You are not required to use a crossover cable.
- For routing/switching devices (ex. EdgeMAX, UFiber), use the included power supply to provide power to your device.
- Connect your device to your Internet-connected network to allow for discovery & adoption to your UISP Application.
- Launch your web browser and connect to your UISP Application (ex. myisp.uisp.com).
- Enter your administrator username / password to connect to your UISP Application
- Click on the Devices tab to view devices "Pending adoption", then click to Adopt/Manage within the UISP Application.
NOTE: By default (i.e., with "Automatic Configuration" toggled under Settings >> Devices), the UISP Application will include discovered devices under all connected network ranges accessible to your UISP Gateway device.
Troubleshooting Devices
Supported Devices
The UISP Application allows you to configure, upgrade, and monitor Ubiquiti's operator device platforms:
- UISP Wireless
- UISP Routing & Switching
- Wave
- airMAX
- airCube
- airFiber
- EdgeMAX
- UFiber
- SolarPoint
The UISP Mobile app, available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play, is used to discover and access Ubiquiti devices on the local network. This is a very powerful tool that you can use to add devices to the UISP application (Cloud or self-hosted), or individually manage them.

The exact steps on how to connect to the device and which credentials (username/password) to use will differ between the various Ubiquiti devices. For the most up to date information, we recommended downloading your device's Quick Start Guide (QSG) from our Download section.
The WiFiman Mobile App and WiFiman Desktop can also be used to discover Ubiquiti devices.
Adding an airMAX Device
Before starting, please check the appropriate Quick Start Guide (QSG) of the device from the airMAX Download section for the installation steps.
Afterwards, follow the checklist below. Each option can be expanded for additional information.
1. Is the device connected to power (PoE)? It may take up to 45 seconds for some devices to fully boot up from the moment the LED starts glowing.
See each device's Quick-Start Guide (QSG) for more information on the LED patterns for each individual device. |
2. Is the device broadcasting an SSID? Devices such as the NBE-5AC-Gen2 only broadcast the management SSID for 15 minutes after a power-on. If necessary, you can power cycle the device to re-enable the Wi-Fi. Use the WiFiman Mobile App to discover nearby SSIDs and their signal levels.

3. Is your mobile device connected to the correct Wi-Fi network? Choose either the SSID that the device is broadcasting or another wireless network that the device is connected to. Verify the wireless network that you are connected to by navigating to the Wi-Fi settings on your phone.

4. Was your device connected recently and is your phone in range? Note that the management SSID may disconnect after some time when it doesn't detect any activity (15 minutes after connecting to power).
Bring the mobile device closer to the device you are trying to adopt as the management network has an intentionally limited range. |
5. Is the UISP Mobile app up to date or are you using a Beta version? Verify if there is an update available by opening up the App Store or Google Play app.
The UISP app also has a Beta program. You can try joining the Beta to get the latest features or leave if you are experiencing issues. |
6. Does the UISP Mobile app have all the needed permissions? Verify if the app has all the required permissions in the app settings on your phone.

If you still cannot discover the device then try the following steps:
- Close the app completely (force if needed) and re-open it.
- Restart your phone and re-open the app.
- Completely uninstall the app and re-install it.
- Reset the airMAX device to factory defaults using the steps provided in the Quick-Start Guide (QSG).
- Create a new post in the airMAX section on the Ubiquiti Community forum to get advice from our Community experts.
Below is an example of discovering an airMAX device such as the NBE-5AC-Gen2 using UISP Mobile and the WiFiman Mobile App:

Adding an airCube
Before starting, please check the appropriate Quick Start Guide (QSG) of the device from the airCube Download section for the installation steps.
Afterward, follow the checklist below. Each option can be expanded for additional information.

Adding an EdgeMAX Device
Before starting, please check the appropriate Quick Start Guide (QSG) of the device from the EdgeMAX Download section for the installation steps.
Afterward, follow the checklist below. Each option can be expanded for additional information.
1. Is the device connected to power? It may take up to 45 seconds for some devices to fully boot up from the moment the LED starts glowing.
See the Quick-Start Guide (QSG) for the LED patterns that correspond to each individual device. |
2. Is the device reachable in the local network? Note that on EdgeRouter devices, starting from the v1.10.6 and v2.0.0 firmware releases, the DHCP client feature is enabled by default on the eth1 interface. If you are connecting the device to an existing network, then it is recommended to connect the EdgeRouter using the eth1 interface for initial configuration.
EdgeSwitch devices (ES, ES-X and ES-XP) will try to obtain a DHCP assigned address by default on any interface. Use the WiFiman Mobile App to run a subnet scan to find all devices on the local network. |
